Can I commission Iris Scott for a custom painting?
Yes! The current wait is 8 months, there are 8 people on her 2024 schedule. Commissions are $7 per square inch (see price chart below). Call 505-542-4040 with any questions.
A 36x36 inch (76x76cm) minimum size or $9100 purchase minimum is needed to be added to the waitlist. Custom canvas dimensions can be ordered at any size for specific walls. To discover a painting size that is perfect for your space, Iris suggests sticking blue painter’s tape onto your wall and experimenting with sizes that compliment the room.
How does the refundable deposit work?
A 10% refundable deposit is needed to be added to the waitlist. Note: the deposit is 100% refundable at any time, no questions asked. The commission may be cancelled prior to, during, or after the painting is finished either by Iris or the client. Art is very personal and subjective for both the client(s) and the artist, so in the rare event that a commissioned final piece is not claimed by the patron, the painting will be released to the open market and galleries. For over a decade this system has kept clients of Iris Scott obligation-free, and Iris can paint freely with any suggestion without sacrificing the surprises inherent to the creative process.
Typically clients will suggest to Iris a subject, and/or palette preference. For example, a client might say they want a 72in x 48in horizontal artwork depicting a scene reminiscent of their favorite painting from the Iris Scott archive. Or perhaps the client has an animal, or place, significant to them which they would like to see Iris interpret into a work of art.
