Weekend Walk

A young woman in a white raincoat, blue jeans, and yellow rain boots strolls down a narrow gravel path, surrounded by a riot of red-turning leaves. The autumn scene, with its vivid colors and thick, finger painted oils, almost seems to come alive, the leaves appearing ready to tumble out of the canvas.

This enchanting piece draws inspiration from Iris Scott's larger 2013 painting "Colleen". In 2015, Quarto Publishing in New York City approached Scott to author a book, which led to the creation of "Finger Painting Weekend Workshop, A Beginner's Guide to Creating Brush-Free Works of Art." This 20x20, now being offered for the first time, was her practice painting, a trial run for the book's cover, crafted a few days before Quarto’s photographer and ghostwriter arrived to capture the magic live in her Brooklyn studio. This work exemplifies Scott's unique finger painting technique, which went viral and spread like wildfire across the internet from 2016 to 2020.

The petite piece, classic in subject, electrifies the vibrance of a simple autumn walk. It would make the perfect gift for fans who have watched Iris's tutorials or painted from her book, capturing a moment from the short era when Iris had time to teach.
