Waves in the Woods

In this early fall scene, the forest appears caught mid-exhale, the leaves hanging in suspended animation between the warmth of summer and the oncoming cool blues of winter. Aqua hues cling to the branches like tendrils of ocean kelp, winding through the air as though the trees themselves grow aquatically beneath the sea.

The sun casts its syrupy yellow glow across the landscape, glazing it in a soft sweetness that feels almost too tender for this world. If you could hear them, the cicadas would be buzzing with an electric hum, a sound that flickers like static just beyond the edge of perception. Is this a kelp forest or just a blue-toned deciduous woodland? The viewer is invited to choose how to step into the scene—whether with leaves crunching underfoot, or with a splash as one dives into the deep.
